DIY Home Made Body Scrub Using 3 Natural Ingredients

If you've read one of my earlier blog posts "What's My Story and How Did I Get Here", you would know that lately I've been suffering with dry, scaly, flaky skin on my legs - which has been driving me nuts!

Now, I know that I could easily run out to the store and grab any wide variety of exfoliants or body scrubs, but part of the healthy, holistic lifestyle that I am working toward living has me searching out products with as many natural ingredients as possible.

Then, I thought... "Why not make one myself?" So that's what I did!

I made this body scrub using 3 natural ingredients that just about everyone should have in their pantry at home, and if you don't, then they're super easy to find just about anywhere.

Not only does this body scrub feel wonderful as you rub it over your skin (it's nice and scratchy), but it also smells amazing!! Every time I use it, I have to try to resist eating it! Although you probably could eat it if you wanted to!

All I did to make it was combine a tablespoon of raw sugar (you could use white sugar if you wanted your body scrub to be slightly less gritty), a tablespoon of instant coffee (I used Nescafe), and a tablespoon of coconut oil. That's it!

If you decide to make your own at home, feel free to play around with the amounts of each ingredient until you find the consistency that suits you best.

To use the scrub, I just take it into the shower or sit on the side of the bathtub, scoop it out and gently rub it over each leg using gentle circular motions.

The good thing about this scrub is that the coconut oil is moisturising as the coffee and sugar are polishing. Once you're done scrubbing, simply rinse it off to reveal smooth, flake-free, moisturised skin. Simple as that.

I would only recommend using this recipe as a body scrub as I think it's a little too coarse to use as a facial scrub and if you're shaving your legs at the same time, I'd suggest shaving first to avoid the coconut oil clogging up your razor.

The coffee may also stain any white or light coloured towels or clothing, so try to be careful of that too! If it gets on your shower or bathtub though, it should be simple enough to rinse off - I'm not sure about porous textures or surfaces though, so be careful and use your own discretion.

Also take care not to scrub too hard or you may damage or irritate your skin and, as with any other product you use, it's always recommended to do a patch test first to make sure you don't have any nasty reactions to any of the ingredients.

If you decide to give this DIY, natural, home-made body scrub a go at home, be sure to let me know in the comments how you went and what you thought of it. 😊

Alternatively, if you have any DIY recipes that you recommend, I'd love to hear them! I'd be happy to try some of them out and let you know what I think.

Happy to have you here and I hope you have a great day/ night!
